Blending or mixing tanks are used in many processes in the chemical industry for combining different fluids, or combining fluids with solid media. Mixing vessels may be at ambient or elevated temperatures to enhance dissolving. Level measurement technology is needed to monitor and control addition of media and prevent overfill/ overspill from the vessel. Common challenges include the presence of corrosive media, condensation, foam and risk of media build-up if contents are viscous or sticky. Usually, the blending or mixing tank is equipped with an agitator, so non-contacting and/or low-intrusion instrumentation is desirable so as to not interfere with internal obstructions.
Emerson's Rosemount non-contacting radar level transmitter portfolio combined with the Rosemount 2100 Level Switch series provide ideal level measurement solutions that can withstand harsh and changing conditions.
The new Rosemount™ 2140 is the world's first wired HART® vibrating fork level detector for applications including overfill prevention, high and low level alarms, and pump protection. Providing reliable level detection of all liquids as well as sediments, the Rosemount 2140 offers greater ease-of-use and flexibility with smart diagnostics that continuously monitor electronic and mechanical device health, and a fully integrated remote proof-testing capability, helping to increase safety and efficiency of both plant and workers. The Rosemount 2140:SIS is certified to IEC 61508 (SIL 2) for safety-critical applications.
